This Czech-language book examines how the expansion of Prague, given the go-ahead during the First Republic in 1922, transformed quiet villages on the right bank of the Vltava. The growth of the metropolis was not merely an administrative step: construction activity arrived in the villages and urban infrastructure was built. Prague’s former agricultural hinterland is now often recalled only by the names of today’s districts and by surviving village centres and farmsteads surrounded by newer development. Their rural character has disappeared to varying degrees, depending on how strongly they came under the influence of the city centre. Following the previous volume on settlements and villages on the left bank of the Vltava, this edition crosses the river to present, through words and especially images, six dozen locations including Ďáblice, Háje, Hloubětín, Hostivař, Hrdlořezy, Chodov, Kobylisy, Michle, Modřany, Prosek, Strašnice, Troja, Vinoř, Záběhlice and many others.
