Description
Socks, pajamas, a tuxedo, rum. These are all the things that the violinist of the Czech symphonic orchestra must pack when he sets off on a foreign tour through concert halls. And he must add a healthy dose of patience to endure the cramped conditions in the bus and hotel rooms, survive all the stops at gas stations, and the supposedly funny demands of his colleagues. Violinist Evžen is also a kind-hearted person and goes out of his way to help his fellow musicians with practically everything: whether they need to free up a hotel room for romantic rendezvous or want to borrow money. On top of that, he has fallen in love with the flutist and has no idea how to express his feelings to her. Zuzana Dostálová, in her new novel, gives readers a glimpse behind the scenes of the orchestra and reveals that the messengers of high art often do not have it easy. Making a living from culture is no walk in the park.
