Description
On the outskirts of a village in the heart of the forgotten Rychleb Mountains stands a stone house surrounded by an avenue of rare rowan trees, which is why it is nicknamed the 'Rowan House.' It is here that Lucie returns. For the summer, or forever. The old house represented a safe haven for her in childhood, and now, as her life crumbles between her fingers, she seeks refuge here once again. With her return, Lucie disrupts the fragile balance of life for the local residents. From the window of the convenience store, Janina, who was born and raised in the village and has never managed to leave, watches her jealously. Now expecting her third child, she hopes to manage motherhood and her relationship better this time. But when the emancipated Lucie, accustomed to city life, appears, Janina begins to doubt whether her life situation suits her. Both women reevaluate their lives, while long-standing grievances slowly surface among other villagers. A relationship novel by Marie Hajdová about motherhood in all its forms, about returns and new beginnings. It tells us that some roots cannot be easily uprooted and that we can plant them where we least expect it.
