Description

This Czech-language biographical novel is based on the carefully kept diaries of Hana Kulasová, written from her wedding until 1973. In the late summer of 1962, she recorded that the proverb “A constant drop will hollow out a stone” had become her life motto and the best description of her work, especially her efforts to raise her two sons. Her older son, Jirka, was diagnosed with autism, while his younger brother Vašek was exceptionally intelligent and quite restless. As an “ordinary housewife” in the 1960s, Hana faced challenges that continue to trouble many parents today. She devised ways to educate her older son at home, tirelessly took him to doctors and devoted her soul, heart and time to both children. Her records offer an extraordinary account of living with autism in the twentieth century and, above all, create a portrait of an exceptional woman.
