Description
A titillating historical novel about love, gender, and liberation. It unfolds in two time periods. The first tells the story of linguist Dr. Voth, who in our present is trying to recover from a breakup and obsessively immerses himself in the life of Jack Sheppard, the legendary thief and lover from the eighteenth century. No one knows the true story of Jack, as his testimony or confession has never been found. That is until Dr. Voth discovers a mysterious document titled The Confession of the Fox. It is a manuscript from 1724 about an orphan named P., who was sold into slavery at the age of twelve and later became a daring thief and a fighter for the rights of 'monsters' – werewolves or dwarfs. His adversary is not only the police but also the boss of all London thieves, who hunts the 'monsters.' Thus, P. gradually becomes Jack Sheppard, one of the most famous and wanted thieves in history. Dr. Voth feverishly works day and night on analyzing the manuscript. But he is not the only one who wants to uncover Jack's story and true identity. And so, both Jack and Dr. Voth are drawn into a case of a mysterious conspiracy, revealing that their fates are intertwined – and only a miracle can save them both.
