Description

It is the year 1952. Ella Fitzgerald is already a well-known jazz singer, whose path to absolute stardom is hindered by "only" society's access to women and racial prejudices. At the same time, the star of Marilyn Monroe is also rising steeply, as she battles endless struggles with studio executives, possessive men, and her own demons. She needs to learn to sing – and she won't settle for just any teacher. She wants the best. Despite Ella's rejection, she does not give up, and from their mutual correspondence, an unexpected kinship gradually emerges. Both face prejudices and societal conventions, fight for their independence, and aspire to reach the top. Their bond, which has lasted more than a decade, reminds us that there is a force capable of overcoming barriers, defeats, emotional upheavals, and tumultuous success. That force is true friendship.

Translated by Dana Chodilová.
