Description
In the forest above the village of Gévaugnac, a young girl is found, burned at the stake during the night. Captain Julie Frayssová from the police station in Toulouse receives orders to immediately end her recently started vacation, take over the investigation, and consult the procedure with Novak Marrek, a former captain who investigated similar cases with the same modus operandi two years ago. Back then, young girls were murdered by the mysterious Spalovač – a serial killer who narrowly escaped Marrek and still haunts him. Novak was once a great detective. He is intelligent, cultured, and thoughtful. The problem is that his obsession with unsolved murders has driven him to a psychiatric hospital. Since his failure, he has suffered from delusional obsessive thoughts, and his brain sometimes creates false certainties that he cannot distinguish from reality. Believing that Spalovač has returned, Novak becomes a police consultant and embarks on the investigation with Julie. Distinguishing reality from delusions, however, will not be as easy as it might seem.
