Description
This Czech-language young adult novel won the 2017 Goodreads Choice Award in the Romance category. The Vosses are hardly what anyone would call a normal family. They live in a renovated church, their mother, who was recently treated for cancer, occupies the basement, and their father is married to her former nurse. Then there is Merit. Merit Voss collects trophies she did not win. It is a strange hobby, but it has a special meaning for her. When she goes to a garage sale to look for her latest acquisition, she meets Sagan instead of finding a trophy. His personality, humour and disarming optimism immediately captivate her, and it could almost be called love at first sight—until Merit discovers that Sagan is already involved with someone. After this discovery, the withdrawn Merit retreats even further into herself, watching her life and her eccentric family from a distance. Then she uncovers a secret that no trophy could ever make up for.
