Description
Set during the lockdown and the Covid period in Prague, this Czech-language novel follows Marcel and Zina, two people who have never met before being brought together by the death of a friend and acquaintance and his funeral. After a brief but intense encounter, they part without exchanging contact details. Prague is gripped by a state of emergency, rules and a quiet fear of infection. The streets are emptier than usual, human relationships more fragile, and everything personal seems suddenly dangerous. Yet precisely when every touch is a problem and every meeting a risk, both begin to be haunted by the desire to find each other again. Marcel and Zina have each endured their own emotional hell, and so they cling all the more to something that has appeared in their lives unexpectedly and almost absurdly: hope and love arriving at the least suitable moment. Can they meet again before isolation, fear and the past overwhelm them, and can love have a chance in a world that orders people to keep their distance?
