Description
Why should the European Union gain its own political power, and how could something like that be realized? These are the fundamental questions that the two fictional protagonists of the Debate with a Euroskeptic attempt to answer through sometimes passionate, but always constructive dialogue. Pro-European Petra argues that European nations must unite to defend themselves and promote their interests in a rapidly changing world. She also believes that it is necessary to redefine and strengthen the transatlantic bond with the United States within the framework of NATO. Skeptic Václav is convinced that nothing like that is possible. According to him, the conditions for the emergence of a pan-European political power do not exist in Europe, and the nation-state continues to represent an irreplaceable political form. The alliance with the USA must remain unchanged; otherwise, European nation-states would not be able to protect themselves from non-European enemies (Russia) and perhaps even from starting to fight among themselves again. Which arguments will prevail? And can a convinced advocate of European integration find common ground with her irreconcilable opponent?
