During a routine autopsy of a victim of what appears to be a common car accident, Dr. Carolyn Hove, the chief forensic pathologist of Los Angeles, uncovers several confusing discrepancies, prompting her to call in Detective Robert Hunter from the Los Angeles Police Department's Ultra-Violent Crimes Unit. Dr. Hove not only discovers that the death was not caused by the car crash but also finds signs that the victim was brutally tortured before death. However, no one at that moment realizes that Dr. Hove has only scratched the surface, leading Hunter and his partner Carlos Garcia on the trail of a twisted and cunning killer who is hiding in plain sight – a serial killer whose existence no one was aware of until now; a murderer who has always operated covertly and skillfully disguised each heinous murder as an accidental death. But since the investigators have no leads on why the victim was targeted, the investigation stalls until another body is found with an alternative cause of death. What is clear is that this serial killer will not stop – until Hunter and Garcia catch up with him.
