Description

The Snake’s Work is a dark, atmospheric novel set in a post-apocalyptic Paris destroyed by a mysterious Deluge, where humanity tries to rebuild the world from the ruins. Among the survivors are people with the unusual ability to read unique signs, known as synchronicities, in the chaos of everyday life. The most gifted of them, called Pythons, work as elite criminal hunters for the new police force. Nathaniel Loppe, once a legendary Hunter, has withdrawn from society after a personal tragedy. When a serial killer who is himself a Python appears without leaving a trace, Nathaniel returns to action at the urging of a younger, insecure colleague devastated by a recent breakup. The tense investigation explores chance and fate, synchronicities, quantum uncertainty and parallel worlds. Norman Jangot offers an unsettling, hard-to-classify story that combines genre entertainment with a visionary reflection on the contemporary world, as well as themes of revenge and the fragility of civilization.
