Description
This Czech-language novel tells of the present being crushed by the past. The story unfolds in seemingly unrelated places: a psychiatric clinic, the Ore Mountains and the Yugoslav mountains where West German films about Winnetou, based on the novels of Karl May, were once filmed. Its timeline stretches from the Second World War to the present day. In the Velebit Mountains, a former partisan finds himself at the filming of these movies. Decades later, the same landscape becomes the scene of brutal fighting during the Yugoslav wars, while a group of young right-wing radicals from Dortmund experience the futility of their ideology. At the same time, texts written by a former patient are discussed at a conference in a psychiatric hospital in Leipzig. How did he manage to disappear without a trace? Was he able to predict the future? And what connects him with the globetrotting Dr May, who was once also a patient at the same clinic?
