In times of war, the muses are silent. But has this always been the case? It is the year 412 BC, and Gelon of Syracuse is not willing to simply accept something similar, so together with the dreamy Lampo, he searches among the war-weary Athenian captives for the lucky ones who can recall at least one line from some tragedy of the legendary Euripides in exchange for a morsel of food. Eventually, a fortunate idea emerges. The parched captives, imprisoned in mines and scorched by the relentless sun, would surely welcome the opportunity to rehearse Medea. The military might of Athens may have failed, but art still holds hope, and simple potters from Syracuse can become powerful directors. Ferdia Lennon plays a game of clever humor, where not only various stylistic registers clash, but also the absurdity of the joke meets the density of the novel into which the joke grows.
