Description
In this Czech-language crime novel, Chief Inspector Michael Lambert is convinced that his latest case is closed, but then he receives a file detailing a particularly horrific crime. He immediately recognizes the modus operandi. A cold-blooded killer known as the Soul Stealer removes his victims’ eyes and carves the Latin inscription “In oculis animus habitat” — “The soul dwells in the eyes” — into their chests. He last struck eighteen years ago, and one of the victims was a close friend of Lambert’s. The police must reopen the cold case, and Lambert begins investigating in order to finally catch the murderer. As the number of dead rises, however, the chief inspector realizes that he himself may soon become the next victim.
