Longtime ranger chief Dan O’Brien has one flaw: he does his job too well. However, his relentless effort to protect the flora and fauna around the Kanuyaq River might cost him his job. Dan is joined in the fight by all the locals from the reservation who care about him and the environment of Alaska – led by private investigator Kate Shugak. However, their efforts are shaken by a brutal attack that claims the life of one of the long-standing community members.
