Description
The book focuses on the phenomenon of religious pilgrimages in Moravia during the Baroque period (with overlaps into the nineteenth century) and on the literary texts that emerged within this context. It editorially presents and comments on several dozen of the most interesting pilgrimage songs from chapbook prints, hymnals, and pilgrimage guides. The texts do not limit themselves to the famous Moravian sites (Hostýn, Svatý Kopeček, Křtiny), but also cover lesser-known ones (Prašivá, Jalubí, etc.). Additionally, the publication introduces another significant phenomenon — cross-border pilgrimages (Mariazell, Czestochowa). Besides the editorial section, composed according to individual locations, the book contains a monographic study that places the issue of pilgrimage songs in broader cultural and historical contexts. A rich visual appendix provides reproductions of period prints, graphics, and photographs of pilgrimage sites.
