What is the fall into the "murky sewer" of history? How does a person react in extreme situations? What consequences does collaboration with an occupier or a pact with the devil carry? Our modern history is not paved only with heroism, selflessness, and principles, but also with failures, treachery, and collaboration. Miloš Doležal, who has long been engaged with the figure of the martyr of communism, Father Josef Toufar, has now focused on the period of the Protectorate. Traces of the main actors in his book are still noticeable and bloody today. However, the author does not judge people or history; rather, he carefully unravels fateful moments, seeks to understand internal motivations, and glimpses into the tragic game that Evil plays with humanity.
