Description

The dramatic work of Václav Kliment Klicpera (1792—1859) has stamped modern Czech theater with an unmistakable form. It includes more than sixty plays, both tragic and comic, drawing thematically not only from domestic history or fairy tales but also from contemporary situational and linguistic humor. The present volume focuses specifically on Klicpera's comedic works. The plays Žižkův meč (1815), Divotvorný klobouk (1817), Rohovín Čtverrohý (1817, 1821), Veselohra na mostě (1826), and Každý něco pro vlast (1829) are complemented by the German-written play Sen (Der Traum, 1826), which is now published for the first time in Czech translation as well. The commentary was written by Přemysl Rut.
