Description

Ten-year-old troublemaker Viktor lives in Prague with his mother, a theater actress who struggles with both his upbringing and her own life. When Hana receives an offer to shoot a series, she sees it as an opportunity to solve her problems. She moves Viktor to his grandmother's house in the countryside and convinces herself that it will be best for him to change his environment, and for her mother, that she won't be alone. However, Viktor feels betrayed and desperate, especially since his stern grandmother has a clear idea of how life around her should look. The novel follows his dramatic adjustment to rural life and the fate of his grandmother, who begins to realize the inevitable approach of old age beside him. Petra Soukupová, in her prime, once again shows how brilliantly she captures strained family relationships and the experiences of a child hero at the moment he realizes his helplessness in the adult world. And also the helplessness of adults against their own ideas of happiness.
