Allies in Normandy, in the Protectorate Darkness Germany still occupies most of continental Europe. The Third Reich is waging total war and continues to evoke dark demons. The last months of World War II and the Protectorate are a time of accelerated time, a cluster of dramatic events and the resolution of several stories. It is complemented by a short story describing the last months of Lieutenant Josef Šandera's life, dying for sixty days in a hospital after attempting suicide while surrounded by the Gestapo.
