Description
An impressive novel about how some memories are beyond the reach of even destructive fire. One autumn night, Fredrik Welin wakes up to find the roof over his head on fire. Fredrik escapes literally at the last moment, managing to grab only a raincoat and two left boots. His beloved house on an island in the Baltic goes up in flames along with all his possessions. The charred ruins become a symbol of his lonely life, which is already nearing its end. Fredrik moves into an old trailer left by his daughter and immediately orders new boots. When his daughter comes to help him and a sympathetic journalist contacts him for an interview for the local newspaper, Fredrik's life turns upside down.
