Description
The author of the anthology Shadow of the Candle (1994) returns after years with a new collection. Once again, he employs traditional, formally refined poetic forms and a decadent stylization, which he shared in his youth with the author who was closest to him in the underground, namely J. H. Krchovský, and time has tested it. We recognize his self-ironic grimace, beneath which lies existential distress confronted with the 'paradox of faith.' However, in some of his later texts, Marks reaches for simpler forms, opting for a more laconic way of expression, presumably precisely where he confronts the 'new era' harshly. Marks's lyrical voice has truly been missed in this country.
