Many claimed that the communists ruled this state for forty-one years, but was it really so? The year 1968 was for many a dream or just a tremor in their lives. Many believed, others did not even hope, but it seemed that the end of one-party rule was approaching. However, a turning point came that transformed life into before and after. It was August 1968, and the lives of many were directly interrupted by Soviet tanks. In the streets, the tracks of tanks and the wheels of transporters crushed the hopes of those who wanted to believe that our state was truly heading towards bright tomorrows. The book, like many before it, attempts to remind us of that fateful August 21 and the days that followed. Dobříš and nearby Příbram were among the planned targets of the occupying forces, as there was a nearby air defense base for Prague and the command of the Western District was located in Příbram. These were therefore places that needed to be secured, preventing local military units from carrying out any actions. However, citizens' memories focus more on events in Dobříš, the nearby rocket base, and the journey to Prague, where more street clashes occurred. Events in Příbram are more based on preserved reports of the movement of occupying troops between August 21 and 29, 1968, and memories also follow this...
