The Black Book of Soviet Occupation provides information about the most serious consequences of the military intervention by the Warsaw Pact armies in August 1968 and the subsequent Soviet military occupation from 1968 to 1991. These consequences include citizens who died as a result of the actions of the intervention or occupying forces. The book also fills a gap in historical research on the so-called normalization, outlining the development and fundamental issues of the Soviet occupation. Since the first edition in 2015, the authors have discovered data on previously unknown victims from 1969 to 1991. They also re-examined the initial months of the occupation in 1968. The result was the book Occupation 1968 and Its Victims, which was published in 2017 as a non-commercial publication by the Military Historical Institute in Prague. During the study of new archival materials, it was possible to discover or clarify a number of pieces of information related to the experiences and consequences of the 1968 invasion, particularly from the perspective of the citizens of Czechoslovakia. It was also possible to refine the list of victims of the intervention and occupying units from August to December 1968.
