Description
The town of Dobříš has never been known as a breeding ground for military heroes and veterans, but many who chose to live here or found only a resting place have intertwined their fates with it. Among them is a Sudeten German who decided to fight for Czechoslovakia in France, and the son of the Dobříš rabbi who fought in a bomber in East Africa. Alternatively, there is the story of a soldier, photographer, guard, and partisan who fought his whole life for an independent republic, only to end up in his fifties at PTP for his efforts. However, the stories of these and other men are just part of this book, which also tells the story of the town of Dobříš during World War I from 1914 to 1918, and it also transports us to the period of World War II, which culminated in the May uprising of 1945, dominating all other stories and photographs. Because May 1945 was not October 28, 1918; during those days, ordinary people had to take up arms and reclaim their republic.
