Odcházející železnice II – Zavadil Lubomír (2025)

The second volume of The Vanishing Railway once again documents the disappearing face of diesel and electric traction in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, mainly between 2019 and 2025. It presents more than four hundred annotated photographs, including many unique images of iconic and highly characteristic classes of locomotives and rail vehicles on Czech and Slovak lines, which are giving way to modern replacements because of the introduction of ETCS and gradual renewal. The book also visits places omitted from the first volume, including Karlovy Vary, Protivín, Liberec, Meziměstí, Kutná Hora, Kúty and Prešov. Alongside analogue and digital photographs, it contains numerous accounts by railway workers from across the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Stories about class 743 are joined by recollections of classes 122 and 123, locomotive 124.601-6, and a former České Třebová driver who began as a steam locomotive stoker and worked with every type of electric direct-current locomotive. The Slovak section focuses on class 350 and looks back at operations and services under the Košice locomotive depot. The book also includes unique images created through direct cooperation with České dráhy, ČD Cargo, ZSSK and ZSSK Cargo, as well as museums, private operators and railway associations. The contents are in Czech.
