Description
This apostolic exhortation examines God’s love for the poor, the weak and the vulnerable, who are often subjected to the contempt of those around them. It was begun by Pope Francis in the final months of his life, following on from his encyclical Dilexit nos. After his death, Pope Leo XIV adopted the text and expanded it with his own ideas. The book follows a classic structure: what the Bible says about the subject; a brief history of charitable activity and the Church’s social teaching; and challenges for the Church today. The poor are first and foremost our neighbours, not merely a socioeconomic category or objects of someone’s care. When Jesus Christ says, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Matthew 25:40), this is not simply an expression of human kindness. Christ tells us that the poor form His body, and that love for them is a sign of a Church faithful to God’s heart and the Gospel. The contents are in Czech.
