Description
Editor Tomáš Kutil maps out 30 years of changes at the Archbishop's Seminary in Prague. After the fall of communism in 1989, the church was able to return to freely shaping future priests. The seminary in Litoměřice, controlled by the totalitarian regime, was dissolved, and two new seminaries were established in Prague and Olomouc. In this publication, former and current rectors, spiritual directors, and theologians speak – describing the hectic beginnings, the tumultuous 1990s, and a certain calming after the year 2000. The current leadership of the seminary reveals the present situation and the challenges facing both candidates for the priesthood and the entire church. In conclusion, we look to the future – priests and laypeople reflect on what people expect from priests and what priests should learn and experience during their formation to succeed honorably in life and in their service.
