No marriage is a walk in a rose garden; difficulties are inevitable for everyone. Spouses make wrong decisions, but these should not lead to their definitive separation. The author, during his long priestly service, has encountered numerous married couples. Some have managed to overcome incredible difficulties, and their marriage has survived nonetheless. Even a series of bad decisions does not have to end in the dissolution of a marriage. When that happens, the pain for all involved is immense. One must avoid two extremes: conscious frivolity and excessive worry. Threats and problems do not necessarily mean disaster. "We must seek a way forward – not a way to end the relationship and shared life," the author says with hope.
