Description
This historical retelling of the life of Saint Agnes explores what led the daughter of the Bohemian king Přemysl Otakar II, whose hand was sought by the emperor himself, to renounce worldly power and physical love and become a nun. Based on surviving historical facts, it presents the thirteenth century as a period of conflicting political and spiritual forces, with Agnes at its centre: first as a lonely child travelling between European courts, later as a girl captivated by chivalric legends, betrayed yet still longing for love and fulfilment, while also conscious of her responsibility towards her family and country. Perhaps her life concealed a secret that Christian legends would never have allowed to be told. The contents are in Czech.
