Description
The memories of the Prague Uprising were written by its military commander, General Karel Kutlvašr, at the end of his imprisonment in 1960. By that time, he had already endured more than eleven years of unjust imprisonment. Kutlvašr's memoirs narrate, in context, the fierce battles, the behind-the-scenes negotiations with the Germans, and the emerging political maneuvering that dominated society after the war's end. His diary was never published in full, as it was confiscated and carefully stored by the communist police. This publication rectifies the long-standing injustice that the totalitarian regime inflicted upon the general and provides insight into the last moments of wartime chaos through the eyes of a direct participant.
