The course of history has been determined since the beginnings of civilization not only by conflicts but also – and primarily – by negotiations, agreements, and treaties. These create important milestones in history as they establish the rules and norms of political and social development. In modern history, treaties and agreements are the most important tools for the development of international relations. This publication is conceived as a comprehensive guide to the issues of international relations and diplomacy. In alphabetical order, it provides brief summaries of all significant international treaties, agreements, pacts, alliances, declarations, and other documents and acts in this field from the beginnings of human civilization to the present day. In this context, topics related to Czech foreign policy and diplomacy are also included. Among the extensive array of entries, we can mention examples such as the Atlantic Charter, the Czech-German Declaration, the Emžská Depeshe, the UN Charter, the Compacta, the Maastricht Treaty, the Munich Agreement, and the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact. Compared to previous editions (2002, 2006), this third edition has undergone further refinement and updates of some facts in existing entries, and new entries have also been added.
