Description
When Japanese forces landed near the strategic port of Rabaul on New Britain Island in January 1942, it was clear to all involved that the next target would be Japan's isolation of Australia, or even an invasion of the continent. The main battlefield developed in New Guinea, where the Japanese attempted to occupy another strategic area near Port Moresby, and if the Japanese war machine succeeded in knocking Australia out of the war, it would mean a catastrophic disaster of enormous proportions for the Allies.
