Description
The publication maps the history of the anti-fascist resistance from 1939 to 1945 in individual European countries and evaluates the significance that the resistance movement had for the history of World War II. The most prominent attention is devoted to the anti-fascist resistance in Central Europe, namely in Poland, the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, Germany, Austria, Hungary, and Slovakia. To complement the overall perspective, the activities of resistance movements in other parts of Europe are also described – in the occupied territories of the Soviet Union and the Balkans, in Scandinavia, in Western Europe, as well as in the allied and satellite states of Nazi Germany. The aim is to capture the common features, but also the differences that accompanied the existence of illegal movements during World War II in various European regions.
