Description
Over the course of three centuries of military chaplaincy in both the Austro-Hungarian and Czechoslovak armies, many dozens of Czech priests have served. They carried out their duties faithfully and honestly, even as their lives were affected by all the dramatic twists of tumultuous historical events. The second volume of a monumental and yet unrealized research project, which summarizes the issues of the life and work of military chaplains in our territory from the very beginnings to the 1950s, chronologically follows the first part and aims to present the activities of the chaplaincy in the Czechoslovak army from 1918 to 1950, as well as the military priests who have indelibly marked its history. Among them are generals and ordinary priests, including victims of Nazi persecution and the post-February regime. In a broader perspective, it touches on other topics of church history, such as the relationship between church and state, or the very presence of chaplains in the army. Like the first part, the second volume is supplemented with a rich visual accompaniment of previously unpublished photographs, which further brings the book to life.
