Description
A Czech-language factual biography of Alois Eliáš, the general and prime minister executed by the Nazis in June 1942 at the Kobylisy shooting range in Prague. Rather than fighting with conventional weapons, Eliáš relied on military deception, pretence, delay and the gaining of time to disrupt his opponents’ plans. Under extremely difficult conditions, he maintained radio and courier contact with his superior, President Beneš in London, and used his former acquaintance with Protector von Neurath from the peace negotiations in Geneva. He fought numerous battles of withdrawal against K. H. Frank and knew that he was facing death. Although he helped others emigrate, he refused the chance to leave himself, saying that there were already enough generals abroad. Arrested in September 1941, he was sentenced to death by a German tribunal made up of Gestapo officers and died a hero, refusing a blindfold and staring directly at his executioners.
