Description
Czech history – a favorite topic of Miloslav Švandrlík – is always presented in a way that slightly transcends the interpretations we know from school. The story of Prince Břetislav and the lovely Jitka is no exception. The humorist does not pay much attention to Kosmas's assessment of the politics of the Přemyslid rulers, and he portrays Jitka as a not-so-modest nun from the Svinibrod monastery. In such an interpretation, even statesmanship appears as an interesting farce, staged to soothe international tensions and, after many centuries, also to entertain the audience.
