Description
The second, expanded edition of the book by an author who himself spent five years in the Libyan Jamahiriya during a pivotal time when our relations with this country underwent dramatic changes. Miroslav Belica led the Czechoslovak embassy in Tripoli after November 1989 and from this position had the opportunity to peek under the lid of many distorted or concealed cases (Lockerbie, Czechoslovak semtex, special deliveries, and the activities of our military and civilian experts in Libya, etc.). With the help of archival materials, professional literature, and the memories of witnesses, including former Prime Minister Štrougal, he evokes their actual course, as well as events of later years when the West briefly took the "reformed" Gaddafi into favor, only to subsequently use jihadists to orchestrate the violent overthrow of the Libyan regime. The book is supplemented with a chapter mapping the latest developments in the devastated Libya, which directly calls for a strong government. The first edition of the book from 2014 was awarded an honorable mention at the Petr Jilemnický Prize for 2015 in the genre of non-fiction literature.
