Description
This Czech-language dark fantasy novel follows Phineas Mortimer, who never wanted to become a priest. He would rather do what every wealthy aristocrat’s son does: nothing. He wants to drink in taverns, amuse himself with prostitutes, occasionally fight with commoners and spend his father’s fortune. But the ways of the Lord are unpredictable. During a war, where he serves as a field chaplain, Phineas encounters darkness and nearly loses his mind. To avoid further service, he leaves for a peaceful mountain village to spread the glory of God. Evil, however, has long arms, and the sins of the past prove to be only a prelude to the return of something far more terrifying. Something that neither a studded mace nor prayer may be enough to stop, if any god exists at all in this dark fantasy world.
