Description
The theme of Nazis and treasures is a long-standing, intricate, and perhaps inexhaustible topic. It is also literally wrapped in myths, like few other relics of World War II. The Czech lands are particularly affected by this phenomenon: so-called treasure hunters and locations led by Štěchovice or Hradištěk, foolish plans and promises, already about to uncover chests of gold, the Amber Room, or mysterious documents... However, it is a fact that the Nazis touched the fate of virtually all major movable historical monuments in Bohemia, whether they were the Czech coronation jewels, the reliquary of St. Maurus, the Záviš's cross, valuable collections of militaria, or the still undiscovered insignia and part of the archive of Charles University. In all these cases, the author presents a combination of established facts and contexts that is unique in its compactness and the conclusions drawn.
