Description
Schema therapy as a psychotherapeutic method is based on cognitive-behavioral therapy, into which elements of gestalt therapy and dynamic therapy have merged. It works with specific terms such as early maladaptive schemas (negative core beliefs about oneself and the environment) or limited reparenting (the therapist approaches the client, who is in the so-called wounded child mode, as a kind and understanding parent). The authors of the presented publication have modified the originally individual schema therapy so that it can also be used in group work. They rely on the model of so-called psychological modes (current states of mind) and allow patients to permanently change their view of themselves and others. The effect of schema therapy has been particularly demonstrated in individuals with borderline personality disorder and generally in those for whom conventional psychotherapy usually does not provide much help. The approach described in this book will undoubtedly inspire psychotherapists and benefit individuals with long-term psychological issues.
