Dobrodružství švýcarského Robinsona – Hora Jan (2022)

At the end of the 18th century, Protestant priest Johann David Wyss wrote the book Swiss Robinson for his children. The first edition was published only fourteen years after the completion of the work, but readers quickly took to it, and over the next two centuries, the book appeared on booksellers' shelves many times. The contemporary retelling you hold in your hands is free from the lengthy period descriptions and dialogues, the plot has been accelerated, bringing the book closer to modern adventure literature. Some factual inconsistencies have also been revised. However, what remains are the human values that were valid then just as they are today. We witness loving family relationships, mutual understanding, prudence, and the bravery of the heroes. Adolescent boys and their parents face danger in the wild and an uncertain future on a deserted island, and their characters are tested, for example, by the rich discovery of gold. The constant in their story remains cohesion in the Christian family, support, and respect for one another – values that readers still seek.
