Description
In her latest book, Deborah E. Lipstadt addresses the issue of contemporary antisemitism, as there has been a notable increase in the occurrence of both physical and rhetorical antisemitic expressions in recent years. The author asks: does all criticism exclusively concern the state of Israel? Do we see antisemitism where there is none? Do some refuse to see antisemitism where it is clearly present? She points out that when Jews are the target of hateful rhetoric and prejudice, logically, other minorities cannot feel safe either; it is likely that this will not end with the Jews. And the reverse is also true: if another minority becomes the target of hatred and prejudice, Jews should not feel immune to such animosity; it is likely that it will not end with these groups either. The text is conceived as a correspondence dialogue between Professor Lipstadt and fictional characters, educator Joe and student Abigail. Both young people, concerned about expressions of antisemitism in their surroundings and around the world, pose questions to their mentor, and in her responses, she reveals the essence, roots, hidden manifestations, and consequences of antisemitic tendencies in modern society.
