Description
The intelligent warship Cantankerous Bitch was built for combat, but it is disgusted by its involvement in genocide during the last war. Disarmed, it seeks to atone for what it has done. Its route to redemption is employment with the Rescue Corps, an organisation outside all power structures, answerable to no civilisation and dedicated to helping ships in distress. Its promise is that your guilt will be erased, whether you are an intelligent warship or its crew. When a civilian ship disappears in a system filled with ancient artefacts made from entire planets, the Cantankerous Bitch and its crew of loners, commanded by Captain Konstanz, set out on a rescue mission. They are not the only ones searching for the missing ship. The book won the BSFA Award for Best Novel in 2018.
