Description
Many of Jesus' demands seem very challenging to us today – for example, his commandment to love one's enemies and the requirement of poverty. However, if we place these demands and Jesus' sovereign teaching style, his miracles, and his proclamation of judgment into the historical context of the time, we find that the surprise and provocativeness of his words and actions were even greater than we have previously imagined. The presentation is consistently historical, culturally historical, and theological. The book begins with a discussion on changes in the interpretation of Scripture in modern times and critically assesses these changes. The last two chapters deal with Jesus' suffering and resurrection: through the analysis of historical texts and contemporary contexts, it demonstrates the historical reality of Jesus' resurrection.
