The ancient monastic author, Abba Dorotheos of Gaza (6th century), in his lectures preserved under the title Spiritual Instructions Useful for the Soul, offers advice to his fellow brothers living in community in a very accessible and readable form. His message is relevant even today, when more than ever we are dependent on one another, yet often struggle with the fact that we do not know how to live in community (whether in a religious or other community, marriage, family...). The presented book aims to be the first introduction for Czech readers to the personality of Abba Dorotheos of Gaza, whose fame has transcended centuries and reached our days.
