The author of the diary experienced a journey ten years ago that fundamentally influenced his life thereafter. In the life of a pilgrim, one is prepared to be without the support of family and friends; it is uncertain whether one will have breakfast or dinner; it is uncertain whether one will sleep under a roof at night, or whether one's feet will carry them where they wish to go. In an unorganized pilgrimage, such situations of 'existential vulnerability' occur quite frequently. The author has gone through several life-threatening situations that taught him to notice the moments when God spoke to him – whether through situations or through 'angels'. He speaks to us often, but we often overlook it in our concern for our 'security'. A pilgrim is much more dependent on recognizing the moment when God meets them. The book is a challenge for those who are afraid to rely on the One whom we do not see, mostly do not feel, and only suspect must somehow exist. People today manage to successfully pull their lives away from the edge of the present moment. But the pilgrim is currently suffering from a blister, right now perceives the scent of the sea or the wind, or in a unique moment feels that every step has great meaning.
