The book presents a guide on how to best and effectively connect help for those in need with communities of prayer and contemplation, how theory and practice can intertwine on our life journey, and how we can place our feet in Christ's footsteps by bending down to the poor and suffering. It contains a wealth of references, biblical quotes, and practical recommendations for effectively practicing voluntary help for our neighbors and those in need. The author himself is rooted in the spirituality of the Order of Saint Lazarus, and was also inspired by Franciscan spirituality, as at the beginning of his conversion, St. Francis cared for lepers, whom he had previously despised, and bitter became sweet to him. Believers should not be like servants who serve only for wages, but like servants who do not wait for wages. They should serve God out of love and piety, such service to God elevates a person. Thus, God's kingdom is realized in this world in every human heart, and especially there we should be missionaries.
