Description
This Czech-language historical novel explores the mystery of the Eilean Mor lighthouse. Its light is meant to guide ships past the treacherous reefs off Scotland’s west coast, but in December 1900 it suddenly goes out. A ship is sent to the island to discover what happened, and its crew finds the lighting mechanism ready for use, the rooms tidied and lunch waiting on the table. Only the lighthouse keepers have vanished without a trace. Further investigation reveals that one of the coastal piers has been destroyed, a wrecked crane stands above the cliffs and an iron railing has been torn from the concrete. Everything seems to point to the logical conclusion that the keepers died in a hurricane. Yet there was no storm anywhere near the island at that time. What really happened in the dark heart of the North Atlantic: a tragic accident, murder, or something beyond human understanding?
